where we gathered sea horses and ate gelato

today is a homey lazy about the house on the couch reading eating or napping, and occasionally remembering bits and pieces of last night with sarah and laughing and smiling. there may be bath at some point.

so i will counterbalance all that fall behaviour with this vibrant bright seas-sidey mediterranean holiday of a collection for d&g. amazing prints.

the farm twenty minutes out of davidson

i know this is a spring collection, but it sure would make for good thanksgiving-wear. especially that first dress. with a little apron. oh yes. i could cook a mean meal in that. (speaking of which, yesterday's pie and turkey were both my best-yet. total thanksgiving win. so so pleased with myself and the most beautious humans who came to share it and brought so much deliciousness and warmth into our home. hoooray!)

{grandma old's rhubarb pie}

well. i was trying to decide what to write about this week. there were many options. but. then i was baking pies. and i spent the whole time thinking how amazing it would be to be baking those pies with my mom and grandma. mom would be pouring the wine as i swear and swear about my pastry struggles, and grandma would tell me what to do to fix the pastry, and it would just be the best thing. i am always surprised when i bake and cook, how much of it is my mom. lessons i didn't know i was getting. watching her, helping her, and listening to her stories about cooking and baking with her mother. i am so so grateful for the women i come from. strong and smart and funny and resilient. bold and brave. i could write for days and days about my grandmothers, who i think about all the time wishing i could learn more from them. it really is crazy how often and how much i miss them. and then there are my aunts. and my cousins. these are amazing women. and i'm so lucky to have come from this sturdy stock.

mom! mooommmm! remember that silver-blue iridescent plastic coat i had in junior high? that i wore to death? well HA! i was so ahead of my time. yet again. (or, you know, fashion is cyclical... but i prefer to assume it is me that is a champ a good 14 years on top of trends.) also i seriously really want that last look. weirdo-mc-weird crop circus bigtop.
